So You’re Divorced – 10 Reasons To Stay Off Social Media

Divorce Stinks

We’ve been through divorce. It stinks.

The pain, the inequity, the isolation, while your ex-spouse and seemingly the entire world continues to revolve around, but just beyond your grasp.

What do you do? Where do you go for any semblance of socialization? Oh, how about social media!

There are so many emotions ripping and zipping around in your head and heart. Loneliness, guilt and anger are just a few. Hopefully you’ve resigned yourself to refrain from actual physical attacks of your ex and their newer version of you.

Keyboard Warfare

So many turn to the virtual anonymity of social media. The problem is, you’re not anonymous. You’d do better to get into a shouting match in the WalMart than to post biting, threatening and questionable commentary on social media.

You will go through phases of grief and loss similar to those experienced with the death of a loved one. Sometimes grieving the lost-living hurts more than the finality of death’s closure. A natural desire to have your voice be heard is understandable, but not always advisable.

Since this is an undeniable fact, you should stay calm and not do anything rash. (Acts 19:36)

Empowered while typing your post, you’ll soon realize or regret hitting that publish button once your conscious lies heavy upon your heart. Either that, or a defamation lawsuit is served to your door.

One Way

Faithful.Live was God-inspired to reach out to people like us, who’ve experienced the pain of divorce. Enduring the immediate aftermath can be a difficult time. The temptation to get even is evident, but the only way to recover quickly and completely from the emotional injuries from divorce is through faith in Jesus Christ.

Bonus Material

Avoid the social media posts (not our top 10 list – this is bonus material!!!)

  1. Don’t tell a virtual audience of morbidly curious e-voyeurs the intimate details of you and your kids’ lives.

  2. Don’t launch a “look-at-me” campaign of barrooms, blow-outs, big hugs with new “friends,” or the false narrative of a new, but contrived life.

  3. Don’t post one thing and then live the other. Ever heard the one about living your life so the preacher doesn’t have to lie at your funeral?

10 Reasons To Stay Off Social Media

1. Social media posts are admissible in civil, criminal, and child custody court proceedings.

2. Social media posts are monitored by employers and researched by potential employers.

3. Even if deleted, every post is a permanent record documented by precise date, time, and location stamps.

4. People who know you’re single may scout you out through social media for ill-contrived intentions.

5. Social media posts are monitored by child welfare services and social case workers.

6. Your appearance of extravagant spending can be deemed as wasting child support payments on partying instead of on the child. This could affect your amount of support you receive.

7. Parents of your child’s friends monitor social media. At a certain age, your child’s friends may also be on social media and watch your behavior.

8. The person who God may have chosen for you might see your social media posts and reconsider connecting with you.

9. Once you’ve progressed through the divorce stages and find solid single ground, you may look back with regret on your posts.

10. We just couldn’t allow a list to end on number 9.

Restart Smart

It’s your opportunity to start new. Don’t hit the Redo button with one hand already strapped behind your back. God is a God of second chances. He has great plans for His children. Don’t miss His blessings because you had to complete that tweet about the ex’s new live-in.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
